Medical Emergencies can make you a victim of debt in the blink of an eye.

For example, if you’re blindsided by a drunk driver, if you or your spouse get cancer, or if your child needs extended medical care. You could can expect a big bill for your troubles. I remember helping the best client that I ever had, Thelma H. Thelma is an extraordinary Woman. She is 89 years old.

Thelma had recently won her battle with cancer. Her husband (name withheld) is still dealing with cancer himself. Thelma joked, “maybe there’s something in our water“.

Thelma’s’ Husband had a Medical Bill in the hands of a debt collector. This particular Debt Collector was harassing Thelma everyday for payment. This punk would call her as early and as late as he could to catch Thelma off guard.

Thelma was stuck. The Insurance Company refused to cover some of her treatments. Thelma was a factory worker who had health coverage as part of her retirement package. Her husband had health insurance through his part-time job as well. They both had double coverage.

Thelma problem was that treatment became too expensive for her Insurance Providers. Because her coverage was stacked, both of her Insurance Providers pointed the finger at the other one.
After the fingers stopped pointing Thelma was left with a major medical bill to deal with. This bill ended up in collection because Thelma and her husband were in the hospital. They never saw any collection notices sent to their home.

Thelma’s’ hospital sold the debt to a 3rd Party Debt Collection Terrorist. I was able to help Thelma settle this debt, but it was a tough fight.

In honor of Thelma, this week THE DEBT WARRIORS will share some of the issues and tips to think about if you have past due medical debt.
