Great News! Oregon Attorney General John Kroger forced Debt Collection Lawyer, Derrick E. McGavic to pay $70,000 and cease practicing law.  This is a big victory for Oregon Consumers who had their rights violated by the law firm.

Mr. Kroger’s office started to investigate Mr. McGavic after receiving more than 90 complaints by Consumers. The complaints allege that McGavic’s office violated the Oregon Fair Debt Collections Practices Act. Among what the Attorney General found was:

  • “Misidentified or purposefully confused the identity of creditors in documentation to delay consumers’ response and thus increase fees and interest payable to McGavic and his clients”
  • Notices issued by McGavic allegedly omitted specific information related to the amount of the defaulted debt
  • Failing to provide proper verification of debts when requested by consumers
  • McGavic allegedly repeatedly called debtors who had requested in writing not to be called

These findings validate what Debt Warriors have been saying for years…That is, Debt Collection Terrorist are not above violating the Law! Although States are starting to hold despicable Collectors accountable, if you are being harassed there is no time to wait for the authorities to fight your battles for you.

Instead it is your duty to arm yourself with the intelligence that stops debt collectors in their tracks. You can protect yourself and you don’t have to waste a lot of time or money while doing it.
